About tree removal

Removal is the last resort, not the default. But a dead, split, or undermined tree near a house, a line, or a driveway is a hazard that only gets worse with another winter. Where there is no room to fell a tree whole, it comes down in sections from the top, rigged and lowered rather than dropped.

You probably need this if

  • Bark falling away in sheets, or fungal brackets growing out of the trunk
  • A crack or split at a main union, especially one that has opened since last year
  • The tree is leaning further than it was, or the soil on one side has lifted
  • Deadwood sitting over a roof, a driveway, a play area or a service line
  • It was topped at some point and has thrown up weak regrowth ever since

Worth knowing before you book

A leaning tree is not automatically a dangerous one

Plenty of trees have leaned for decades and are perfectly sound. What matters is whether the lean is new, whether the root plate has lifted, and what sits underneath it. We can only assess on site, not from a photograph.

Access decides the price more than height does

A tree that can be felled into open ground and one that has to come out piece by piece over a conservatory are two different jobs at the same height. It is the main reason quoting tree work remotely does not work.

Where the wood and the brush end up

Cleanup is part of the job, not an extra. Tell us at the quote if you want the timber left in rounds for firewood. It is easy to arrange on the day and awkward to change once the chipper has gone.

Questions we get asked

What does tree removal cost?
We quote on site, and the quote is free. The price of a removal is set by access and by what sits underneath. A tree that can be felled into open ground and one that has to come out in sections over a roof are different jobs at the same height. That is why quoting from a photograph does not work.
Will you tell me if a tree does not need to come down?
Yes, and often it does not. A defect that looks alarming from the ground is frequently something cabling or bracing will hold for years. Removal is what we recommend when a tree is genuinely failing, not as the default answer.
Do you clear up afterwards?
Yes. Cleanup is part of the job rather than an extra line. If you want the timber left in rounds for firewood, say so when we quote; it is easy to arrange on the day and awkward once the chipper has gone.
Is Canopy Tree Care insured?
Yes. Canopy Tree Care is fully insured. Ask for the certificate before work starts and we will send it. On any job involving climbing, rigging, or a drop zone near a building, you should be asking every contractor for it.
