A large limb brought down across a stone house roof after a storm.

About storm damage

After a storm the tree on the ground is rarely the dangerous one. Hangers lodged in a crown, a partly uprooted trunk, and limbs under load are the hazards, and they need releasing in a controlled order. Huron County's exposure to Lake Huron squalls and ice makes this steady seasonal work rather than a rare event.

You probably need this if

  • A limb hung up in the crown that did not come all the way down
  • A trunk leaning further than it was, with the soil lifted on one side
  • A torn union where a limb has already pulled away from the stem
  • Anything resting on a roof, a fence, a vehicle, or a line
  • A tree that looks fine but has bark stripped off down one side

Worth knowing before you book

The tree on the ground is the safe one

What is still up is the problem. A hanger resting in a crown and a limb bent under its own weight are both holding energy, and cutting them in the wrong order releases it somewhere nobody expected. That is the part worth waiting for someone with rigging for.

If a power line is involved, call the utility first

Not us. A line can energise a whole tree and there is no safe way for a contractor to work near one until the utility has made it dead. Hydro One is the number for that. Once it is clear, we can take the tree.

We are not a 24-hour service

Monday to Saturday 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Sunday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and we will get to storm work as fast as we can inside that. If something is actively unsafe overnight, that is a call to emergency services rather than to a tree company.

Photograph it before anything moves

If you are claiming on insurance, the photographs taken before the cleanup are the ones that matter. It costs you two minutes and it is not recoverable afterwards.

Questions we get asked

When can I reach you?
Monday – Saturday 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM; Sunday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Call (519) 614-2719. If a tree is down on a building or a power line outside those hours, contact your utility or emergency services first. That is not a call to wait on us for.
What does storm damage cost?
We quote on site, and the quote is free. Storm work is priced by what is still holding load and how it has to be released, not by the size of what already came down. A limb lying on the lawn and the same limb hung up in a crown over a driveway are very different jobs. That is why quoting from a photograph does not work.
Do you clear up afterwards?
Yes. Cleanup is part of the job rather than an extra line. If you want the timber left in rounds for firewood, say so when we quote; it is easy to arrange on the day and awkward once the chipper has gone.
Is Canopy Tree Care insured?
Yes. Canopy Tree Care is fully insured. Ask for the certificate before work starts and we will send it. On any job involving climbing, rigging, or a drop zone near a building, you should be asking every contractor for it.
How do I get a quote?
Call (519) 614-2719 or send a message, and we will come and look at the tree. There is no charge for the visit and no obligation after it.
